To help people to connect with, enjoy and use their doorstep green spaces, we plan and deliver vibrant community engagement events. In 2012 we were lucky to have the Audience Development contract for Dunwood Park in Oldham. Here are two of the events we ran.

Dunwood Park Easter Egg Hunt

British Birds treasure trail

During a intensive period of restoration, Dunwood Park in Shaw was ‘out of bounds’ for its local community. To kick start people’s connection to the park Pathways ran an Easter Egg Hunt – leading people on a treasure hunt walk through the park’s steep wooded slopes following paintings of british birds. Altogether 450 people came and the event has become an annual event.

Dunwood Park Summer Saturdays

now the fun really beginsAs the restoration work came to an end at Dunwood Park, Pathways organised six ‘Summer Saturdays’ to help local people to regularly start to use their park again.  Each day was themed – for instance Music in the Park, Wild Play, Arts in the Park. Highlights included: a ‘join in’ choir for the day; a trail to find the musican on the hill; storytellers in the woods; rope scrambling and wild play and our own version of the Olympics! The Friends ran a fantastic cafe for each event and we bought shelters to help us avoid the rain if necessary. Over 1000 people came to the six events.
